A User- Based Recommendation with a Scalable Machine Learning Tool

    Get PDF
Recommender Systems have proven to be valuable way for online users to recommend information items like books, videos, songs etc.colloborative filtering methods are used to make all predictions from historical data. In this paper we introduce Apache mahout which is an open source and provides a rich set of components to construct a customized recommender system from a selection of machine learning algorithms.[12] This paper also focuses on addressing the challenges in collaborative filtering like scalability and data sparsity. To deal with scalability problems, we go with a distributed frame work like hadoop. We then present a customized user based recommender system

Adenocarcinoma of Nictitans Gland in a Cow- A Case Report

A 7 year old cow was presented to the College of Veterinary Science clinic (Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati, India), with the history of growth appeared on the third eyelid of the left eye. The mass was surgically excised, and subjected to histopathological examination. Histopathological examination revealed lobules of irregular size and shape with proliferated cells, which were arranged as small tubules with or without necrotic centers. Cells were anaphylactic, large and irregular with hyperchromatic nuclei. Acini showed many layers of cells with papillary projections. Mitotic figures were also present

Brown-headed Gull Larus brunnicephalus Jerdon, 1840, forming big flocks consisting of more than 200 numbers were observed at Bhimili, Visakhapatnam from the months of November 2013 till January 2014. These birds were also observed at Pokkalapeta, Srikakulam on 25th January 2014 forming a flock of around 100 birds. One such gull was recorded in a gillnet operated at a depth of 15 m by fisherman at Gowlamukkam landing centre, Andhra Pradesh on 10th February 201

A narrow-barred Spanish mackerel, Scomberomorus commerson (Lacepède, 1800), exhibiting leucism was landed at Chinatapalli Fishing Harbour, Vijayanagaram District on 24th January, 2014. The specimen was 130 cm long and weighed 16 kg. It was caught by hook and line operated from motorized craft at a distance of 11 km from shore at a depth of 32 m. The specimen was characterized by unnatural yellow colouration on the body

Folic Acid Transport to the Human Fetus Is Decreased in Pregnancies with Chronic Alcohol Exposure

During pregnancy, the demand for folic acid increases since the fetus requires this nutrient for its rapid growth and cell proliferation. The placenta concentrates folic acid into the fetal circulation; as a result the fetal levels are 2 to 4 times higher than the maternal level. Animal and in vitro studies have suggested that alcohol may impair transport of folic acid across the placenta by decreasing expression of transport proteins. We aim to determine if folate transfer to the fetus is altered in human pregnancies with chronic alcohol consumption.Serum folate was measured in maternal blood and umbilical cord blood at the time of delivery in pregnancies with chronic and heavy alcohol exposure (n = 23) and in non-drinking controls (n = 24). In the alcohol-exposed pairs, the fetal:maternal serum folate ratio was ≤ 1.0 in over half (n = 14), whereas all but one of the controls were >1.0. Mean folate in cord samples was lower in the alcohol-exposed group than in the controls (33.15 ± 19.89 vs 45.91 ± 20.73, p = 0.04).Our results demonstrate that chronic and heavy alcohol use in pregnancy impairs folate transport to the fetus. Altered folate concentrations within the placenta and in the fetus may in part contribute to the deficits observed in the fetal alcohol spectrum disorders

Building a Bilingual Corpus based on Hybrid Approach for Malayalam-English Machine Translation

Word alignment in bilingual corpora has been a very active research topic in the Machine Translation research groups. In this research paper, we describe an alignment system that aligns English-Malayalam texts at word level in parallel sentences. The alignment of translated segments with source segments is very essential for building parallel corpora. Since word alignment research on Malayalam and English languages is still in its immaturity, it is not a trivial task for Malayalam-English text. A parallel corpus is a collection of texts in two languages, one of which is the translation equivalent of the other. Thus, the main purpose of this system is to construct word-aligned parallel corpus to be used in Malayalam-English machine translation. The proposed approach is a hybrid approach, a combination of corpus based and dictionary lookup approaches. The corpus based approach is based on the first three IBM models and Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm. For the dictionary lookup approach, the proposed system uses the bilingual Malayalam-English Dictionary

Prevalence of psychological stress in allergic rhinitis patients attending a tertiary care hospital - A cross sectional study

    No full text
Background: Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is a common disorder in patients attending Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) department. It has considerable impact on the life of affected individual. Many studies have linked certain psychological disorders to AR. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of psychological stress in AR patients and assess its relation to duration and severity of the disease. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of AR patients attending ENT OPD during 6 months period. AR patients were diagnosed and classified as per ARIA guidelines. Then they were subjected to standard psychiatric interview and their psychological stress was measured using Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Results: Of 1804 new patients attending ENT OPD, 58 were diagnosed as suffering from AR. Among them, 29 (50%) were found to have significant stress; 12(20.69%) have Anxiety Disorder and 3(5.17%) were found to have Depressive Disorder. Among AR patients, those with persistent moderate-severe type were found to have high prevalence rate which is statistically significant. There is no relation between intensity of symptoms and duration of illness to significant psychological stress in AR patients. Conclusion: Patients with AR have significant psychological stress which should not be overlooked during treatment. It may be related to inherent pathological factors like IgE level, psychological and social factors rather than intensity and duration of illness
